I love Mexican food, honestly. There's something comforting about honest-to-goodness big portions, incredible flavour and no-nonsense heat.
That's why, on my and Chris' last day in Macau, we didn't think twice about going in when we saw a signage for "Tacos" on Rua Cidade de Braga, obviously a Mexican joint.
It was, in fact, owned by a Portuguese lady and her hyperactive toddler. The interiors were warm and homey.
Bread was chewy - perhaps day-old, which made it challenging for me to decide whether it was baked in-house or store-bought.
Chris and I ordered lamb fajita and pork burrito, respectively.
Chris's lamb was served on a sizzling plate, replete with crunchy fresh vegetables and utterly flavoursome seasoning. The meat was super tasty and tender. The downside was, the fajita was a thin tortila that broke easily. Like bad condom :) Again: made in-house or store-bought?
My burrito was even more disappointing. I was served two huge rolls, both of which were mushy. There wasn't enough flavour. Certainly, there wasn't enough protein; I couldn't get the character of the meat. It was really mostly mush.
Thank goodnes the service was excellent and the atmosphere, sufficiently warm.
The beers were cold and thirst quenching; the prices, agreeable.
I will return, because it was a nice, relaxing place with friendly service. But I'll order something else :)
