A Very Gay Day in Disneyland

Hello, Friends!

Disneyland is so fun, honestly. And it's more than just the sugar high you get from cotton candy and soda.

Last Sunday, Caroline, David, Nicolas, Peter and myself took the pixie dust-sprinkled MTR from Sunny Bay to Disneyland, and my-oh-my, was it a day filled with magic.

Fresh, new parade; The Golden Mickeys (hellooo, Tarzan!); The Lion King (hellooo, fire dancers!); Mickey's Philharmagic (still the best 3D show I have ever seen - bar none), The Stitch Encounter; The Nile Nellie (seriously, did a gay man name these boats?); dude from mainland China walking around with a bejewelled purple umbrella; fireworks that never fail to make me cry...

We got the full Disney.

It was a homecoming of sorts for me... I came to Hong Kong to work at Disneyland as part of the Grand Opening team. And now, here I am, helping to plan a Gay Day for the LGBT community that would drive a warm message about inclusiveness and belonging.

This has become my town.

None of us have ever seen the park so busy. It was sweltering hot and crowded, but everyone had big smiles.

For a day, we were able to forget every niggling, little doubt and worry. For a day (like our young n' cute French friend, Nicolas), we were once again children.

If magic truly exists, surely, we tasted it.

When you wish upon a star...
Makes no difference who you are.

With Affection,
James
