Hello, Friends!
There's an allure about battered seaside villages, a certain romance... you can let your imagination run wild with stories of what once might have been. Guerillas? Pirates? Plague?
There are prettier nature treks in Hong Kong, surely; but Tung Ping Chau stands out because of an old, abandoned village along its coast.
Some former residents return during Public Holidays to run little restaurants, a scuba shop, and even a hostel that's got folding cots in a communal room, cooled by rusty floor fans.
Quaint and utterly charming.
With Affection,
James

how did you get there?
Hi, Barry! we went to University MTR, then 10 minute walk to the pier. We took the 9am ferry (it's the ONLY ferry, returning at 5pm in the afternoon). the ferry is 1.5 hours long, so bring some reading materials!!!
thanks for that, i didn't know how to get out there as it's so remove from the rest of hk. i'll go this week while the sun is shining :D
barry, make sure you only go on Saturday, Sunday or public holiday!!!
Is it normally busy on weekdays?
Also, how much is the ferry :)
barry, there is NO FERRY on weekdays!!! don't go, unless you plan to swim all the way towards guangzhou. haha!
I understand now, so if I go on Sunday, I had better be sure not to miss the return journey and get stranded on a remote island for a week lol.
cheers James
