any autumn night of yore
any autumn night of yore
on a fragrant South China harbour.
these nomads -
they wear high heels, ride on clotheshorses,
sip effervescent bubbles, nibble on dainty sweets.
they haughtily flip perfectly coiffed heads
in delicious symphony with the atonal beat
of a million popping flashbulbs.
these lights -
they rip the velvet sky ablaze
with spectacular ribbons of firework:
heathen's sabres rupturing a village's calm
to create a heaving, contemporary outpost
echoing an ancient Silk Road...
