ICE CREAM

HAAGEN-DAZS HONG KONG

We caught up with our dear friend, Tricia, over scoops of Haagen-Dazs ice cream heaped onto crispy waffle shells. We ordered the "Flower Blossoms" (above, HKD89 + 10% sc) which features six delicious ice cream flavours in one dish, drizzled with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry syrup. Perfect for those who, like us, can't decide on just the one flavour to enjoy.

We have fond memories of ice cream. Our grandparents had a bakery next to an ice cream parlour in the sleepy town of Santiago, Isabela. And so after we'd polish pork asado or bola-bola buns off the steamers, we'd march to the ice cream shop next door for dessert. Pure childhood bliss.

This Christmas we're staying in Hong Kong. When one comes from a large and wonderfully tight-knit family such as ours, it's difficult to be alone over the holidays. We miss, of all things, the noise.

In the hustle and bustle of our Hyperactive Hong Kong lives, we often tend to forget the simple (and quick!) pleasures that can instantly fix any bout of melancholy.

Enjoying Trish's company over a bowl of ice cream - never mind if we were together less than half an hour - allowed us to feel that familial connection we've been sorely missing the past few days.
