MORNING IN CHEUNG SHA, HONG KONG'S GAY HAMPTONS

Cheung Sha is a different beach in the morning. Quieter, but also more volatile. No shrieks from obnoxious tourists; just the sound of waves crashing at a higher tide. No beefcakes and babes replicating the Wyndham nightlife corridor mating ritual; just babies and mums and dads and dogs out for a peaceful, playful morning walk. 

Emma, Chris and I enjoyed a little, morning dip. The waves were Hyperactive (natch), pulling my shorts off of my waist a couple of times. And then another wave would whip them right off again before I could pull them back up. I hope my bumbling efforts to stay decent at least made adequate entertainment for the bored lifeguards.

TECHNOTRONIC // PUMP UP THE JAM

Spending the weekend in Cheung Sha beach with Chris and my non-sexual wife, Emma. We figured if we were gonna be attacked by a tropical rainstorm, we might as well be trapped some place pretty. Fine sand, gently rolling surf, lots of trees, old village houses, gorgeous residents... Such a pretty patch on Planet Earth, Cheung Sha is. The only thing more arresting than the picturesque setting is the battalion of impossibly sculpted bodies on the beach. My dear friend, Paul, a PR maverick, calls Cheung Sha "The Gay Hamptons."

Chris and Emma ran off for a little dip after lunch. I wanted to do so, too. And after three intense training sessions under the watchful guidance of Bridge Hudson (2012 Mr Gay HK 1st Runner-up), I was hopeful I'd have enough confidence to frolic shirtless along the beach.

Not just yet.

Five minutes in front of the full length mirror and countless selfies later, I'm still not convinced that my body's fit enough for public consumption, in spectacularly perfect Cheung Sha.

EVENT OF THE WEEK: CHARITY BID-A-DATE

If you haven't yet heard about this event, where the fuck have you been?! From the logos on the e-flyer alone, everyone is involved. And so should you, if you - or a loved one - are a member of a sexual minority.

Here are 5 reasons why:

05 It's the fundraiser for Pink Season. It's easy enough to pass donation boxes donation around all year. But this one is an event.

04 It's at Shore Steak. We had a good run doing Fruits in Suits in Salon de Ning, so big thanks to The Peninsula Hong Kong! We're moving back to Central with this big 'do and we couldn't have found better partners to work with than Shore's Troy (GM) and Mark (MD). Shore is swanky but not stuffy. Just effortlessly chilled out.

03 It's an auction. Bid guilt-free on beautiful human beings as they go down the hammer. I feel like a proper pimp because my non-sexual wife, my best friend, and my boys are all up for auction. Each winning bid comes with dinner for two at an upscale restaurant plus a booster gift valued at a minimum of HK$1,500.

WHITE SATURDAYS BRUNCH PARTY AT ARMANI PRIVE

 
Was invited to the launch of White Saturdays Brunch Party by Armani Prive venue manager Manuel Palacio. "There's a bottle of Perrier-Jouet waiting for you," he said, so how could I possibly resist?

Brunch is a charming affair at the Italian fashion house's upbeat, outdoor terrace slash lounge in in Hong Kong.

Everyone is kitted in white, natch. DJ, servers, bartenders... even the managers. It's a cute concept. Great venue, stylishly presented food, sexy music, snobbish crowd.

The 3-course brunch is at HKD420 and HKD200 for after-brunch entry, 4pm onwards.

Highly recommended.
